Adopted a stray cat. Vet stated cat needed all teeth removing at a cost of £700. Got a 2nd opinion, only needed two teeth removing and some root canal. Companion care prepared to remove full set of teeth from a young cat. Be wary.
I am sorry to hear that you were not happy with the service you and your cat received at our practice. It must have been a relief for you when your cat ended up with considerably less extractions than originally estimated. However, I would like to point out that under no circumstances would our vets ever extract any teeth that can be saved. But it is not possible to assess a cat's (or dog's for that matter) dental health and the number of teeth that need extracting for definite prior to a thorough examination under general anaesthesia, as it involves probing the depth of the pockets between the cat's gum and teeth. We therefore tend to err on the side of caution when providing a dental estimate and estimate for the worst case scenario based on the clinical examination of the conscious pet. This means there won't be any negative surprises following a full dental examination under anaesthesia, and in many cases, like in yours, less extractions than originally estimated are required.
As a response to your review we will include written information to this effect with future dental estimates to prevent any misunderstandings.

I have been registered with the surgery for about 15 years. The vets at Horwich have recently been treating my elderly dog for kidney failure and arthritis. They have made his last months more comfortable and given him a better quality of life. Sadly he has just passed away but he was treated with dignity and compassion which was greatly appreciated

ALL THE STAFF ARE FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE
MY LAST DOG WHO SADLY GOT PUT DOWN WAS TREATED WITH KINDNESS AND AS THE VET KNOWS I AM A NURSE WE DISCUSSED HIM PROFESSIONALLY BEFORE DECIDING ON A COURSE OF ACTION.
