“Not value for money”

I am appalled at the cost of a consultation and in particular a second consultation, requested by the vet, to check the first course of action was working. I work very hard to earn £10phr and the fee levied of £29 for a 4 min consultation is awful. Assuming you block periods of 15mins prorating either £34 or £29 x 4 equals over £120 an hour. I don't even think the prime minister earns that kind of money!

We're grateful we could be seen on a Sunday which is convenient for us and everyone is very polite. However, we've seen 4 different vets on the 4 occasions we've visited and if we're honest we no longer feel comfortable coming and will opt in future for a more personal service with a practice that has some continuity. We love our dog and no one said dog ownership is without cost but £29 for 4 mins is too much and even beats my dentist who charges £18 for 3 mins!

Thank you for your comments Jason. We feel our consultation fees are fair and competitive, and are typical for our region. I am glad you value the opportunity to be seen by our vet on Sundays, for which you pay the normal fees. This is not the case at some other vets when call out fees apply as they are closed. As much as we would like to have all our staff working 7 days a week so that we can provide consistency in availability, unfortunately that is not possible due to various legal, humane and business reasons, and so we do have to rota our staff on the weekend. Consequently, our weekends have a rolling pattern so that all staff get a chance to work them. Unfortunately, that does mean we cannot promise that you see the same vet every Sunday. I think I am correct in saying this restriction probably applies to all the vets with weekend opening hours. I hope you find this information useful if you review your decision to go elsewhere.

Once again, thank you for your comments.

“Not very helpful”

Thank you companion care for forcing my hand to change vet. You were so unhelpful forced me to look for a different vets. I have an elderly dog who can no longer get in and out of a car. I needed some more flea treatment but they said I had to take my dog into the vets before they gave him anymore. I explained my problem about not being able to get my dog to the vets anymore as he cannot get in the car and they just said there was nothing they could do. Can't believe they can be so unhelpful and uncaring guess they are only interested in the money not actually helping our animals live a more comfortable life. Well so glad this happened now as I have found a lovely vets where they were so helpful, kind and compassionate. Harbour vets in London road North end thoroughly recommend them.

Veterinary surgeons have to follow the Code of Professional Conduct that states that Prescription Only Medicines (POM-V) can only be prescribed for a patient under Veterinary Care. I can only presume that the flea product requested for your elderly dog was a POM-V product so could not be dispensed unless your dog had been seen by us within the last year. I am very sorry but these are guidelines set out by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons that we, as Veterinary Surgeons, have to follow regarding prescription medicines.
I must however apologise that you were not offered other non- prescription flea treatments that are freely available to anyone over the counter without having to be seen by the practice within the last year. I am also sorry that you were not offered a home visit, which we do for patients unable to come into the surgery, and offer my sincere apology.
