“my dogs happy so i”

I have been under Barton Lodge with my dog Megan since I fist got her from rescue nearly 14 years ago. From the fist day I arrived with her I have NEVER been disappointed with them. They have been, and continue to be my safety net for the health and wellbeing of my dear Megan. HELPFUL,KIND,FRIENDLY and UNDERSTANDING,just begin to describe the entire staff. I have and will continue to recommend this practice.
And when the dreaded day comes that Megan is no longer with me (god willing that's a long way off) I will be sure to register my new pet with them. Comforted in the knowledge that I may have many more years of good quality healthcare to cover my pet.

“Barton Lodge Veterinary Centre”

Another year with Barton Lodge and another year of complete satisfaction with the care of my cats. I could not ask for more care and consideration from these friendly and professional people. Vets, nurses and reception staff are all the best one could hope for.

My association with Barton Lodge is of many years standing and over the years several of my cats have been lovingly looked after by the vets and nurses there. The illnesses suffered by the cats may vary, but the way in which they are treated never does, always the same care and professional standards given. My cats are quite happy to see their friendly vet and as an owner I always feel reassured that they are receiving the best possible treatment.

During a recent illness my ginger boy has received wonderful treatment for what was a sudden and painful condition and the ongoing treatment for a chronic condition in another cat is carefully and thoughtfully managed.

I would not hesitate to recommend Barton Lodge to anyone who cares for their animal's health.

“Thank you for providing excellent customer service ”

On every occasion I visit Barton Lodge I am very impressed with the service and attention that is paid to the customer immediately. The reception staff are friendly, helpful and efficient and all the Nurses and teams know how to treat the customers. I would also highly recommend the Vets in the practice for their professionalism and genuine concern for the welfare of animals. I would particularly like to thank Cathy Wickenden for really looking after my cat Max who was very sick and had to be put to sleep after suffering with cancer. She is a genuine sincere vet who I would highly recommend and I would just like to say thank you to the staff at Barton Lodge.

“Very Friendly Practice”

We got our dog Cassie from Dogs Trust so did not know if there were any hidden complications but Barton Lodge have helped us keep an eye on things and when Cassie slipped a disc in her back they were there to see us through it. Cassie is the first dog I have had that actually likes going to the vets even if its for the treat she gets for being a good girl.
When we have to leave her there its a horrible time but I know that they love and look after her so well. I am so glad that we are with them and I would recommend them to anyone as a brilliant practice were everyone has a smile on there face and is so friendly.

“More than just a vets”

It has been a very difficult year for us, losing our beloved Tammy, but as usual Barton Lodge's Team helped us through. They have always been brilliant with the treatment of all our pets, but when one of our cats fell really sick, Sonya gave us the confidence to realise we could still have the most wonderful last few months with her. She not only managed her treatment so she felt no pain or distress, but supported all our family as well. It is so noticeable that this is not just a job but a real vocation for all the lovely caring staff. Rachel and Katie have both treated our other pets, so I can safely advise anyone looking to find a vet, that they really couldn't find anywhere better. All the staff really understand what being a pet lover is about. The vets, nurses and admin staff really are friends to all.

“Strongly Recommend Barton Lodge Vets & Staff”

Another year of excellent service from all. My yorkie Ben loves going to Barton Lodge & gets so excited that we cannot even drive past without him wanting to go in. Roger & Cathy had an open evening earlier in the year and I was very impressed by the standard of all facilities they offer. It shows that they care very much for all the aninals they treat and they are not just another commodity. All the nurses & admin staff are very professional but very friendly as well. I must take this opportunity to thank Nicky & Sam for all the help and care they have given & continue to give us.

“Very impressed”

I've just been to Barton Lodge for the first time with my recently retired working dog and I was very impressed with everything. I was impressed enough to sign up for their pet health plan scheme, which I believe represents good value.

Despite not being local I decided to go to Barton because of their reputation and I was not disappointed. I spoke to another customer who said she had been going there for 50 years! Even my dog who is not a fan of vets was relaxed and happy, especially with the amount of treats everyone gave him ;)

“Great service & value for money”

On Phelps behalf (our much-loved ex-Battersea Staffie cross) we want to recommend Barton Lodges Pet Health Plan Scheme, which has proved to be amazing value for money (how often can you say that about anything nowadays?). Furthermore, because a family pet is priceless the added bonus is that the Barton Lodge Scheme adds a significant element of peace of mind (together, of course, with Phelps regular, entirely separate Pet Plan insurance). We are hugely impressed with Roger and Catherines expertise and approach (Phelps has now met them both!) and that of all their staff; thank you so much for a professional, friendly and efficient service which, as a pet owner, really does make all the difference.

“Restored my confidence in vets”

Having had a bad experience with a large veterinary chain who wanted to charge over ã1000 for a range of tests on my cat, one of which would have been quite traumatic, I sought a second opinion at Barton Lodge. Roger was brilliant and suggested I try wet food instead of dry, it turns out he was right, such a simple solution has fixed my cat's urinary problems and she's been clear for 2.5 years! Since then we've had one poisoning which required an overnight stay on a drip (caused by eating an entire chive plant in the garden, believe it or not!) and a recent spate of bald patches which Barton Lodge have once again fixed without any costly tests!

I've seen four vets at Barton Lodge over the past three years and they're all absolutely lovely, as are the rest of the team. Thank you for your ongoing care, Sassy is beginning to relax at the vets again!

“A Barking Big Thank You to Barton Lodge”

The staff at Barton Lodge have seen us through many years of happiness on owning two beagles (Bracken and Bramble) and Katisha cat (Burmese) and we must say,Bracken and Bramble were regular attenders at Barton Lodge; managing to get into many scrapes in their lifetime. In fact Roger said once "Here come Bracken and Bramble again we can book our holiday this year! We would also commend the team at Barton Lodge for their consideration, empathy and understanding when they passed away.
On moving to the outskirts of Luton we foolishly tried vets in Luton. The quality of care was so bad that after attending two vets in the area, we went straight back to Roger and Cathy. Roger and Cathy have always given us the confidence, care and trust needed when treating our dogs.
We now have two rescues, Gilly Lab and Milly Beagle. A few months after Milly came to us (abused and frightened of her own tail) we found she had mast cell carcinoma grade 2. An elderly girl, we were worried that she may not pull through a major op. But special thanks to Katy who diagnosed Milly's condition, Roger who did a marvellous job in operating on her and the special care from all the nurses, Milly is having fun and enjoying life to the full for the first time.
The essence of a good vet practice is the team within it and Barton Lodge has a team which work together to give an excellence in veterinary care unsurpassed by any other. Congratulations on your award for Best Vet (UK) 2013 - it is well deserved.

“It's all about the animals!!”

When we first got our puppy, Rudi, my parent s did not hesitate to recommend we take him to Barton Lodge where they have taken their dog for the last 2 years. I like to do my own research though and so called a few other vets in the area to ask a few questions regarding vaccinations etc.
Everyone seemed very keen to give me the basic information and get me off of the phone as quickly as possible, except for Barton Lodge. They answered all of my questions, asked questions about Rudi and even offered some tips without us even being customers at this point. There was no doubt in my mind that Barton Lodge was for us.
On our first visit the vet Sonia, was lovely, answered our questions, gave us more tips and advice and went through everything she was doing, making us all feel very comfortable. The kids also loved the fact that they were allowed to listen to his heartbeat using her stethoscope!
The puppy parties have been invaluable! We have learnt so much information and been able to ask questions and the nurses are all fantastic with the dogs, sitting on the floor and allowing them to climb all over them.
The pet health plan has been a god send as it has allowed us to spread the payments for injections etc out throughout the year rather than in one heavy hit.
There is no doubt that all of the staff at Barton Lodge are there to care for animals and not just to make money doing their jobs.

“A very good practice.”

I have owned cats in Hemel for over 30 years, and for almost all that time they have been looked after by Barton Lodge (or the original Wickenden Practice). I have always found them very good, efficient and caring, and I have never had any problems with them. In that time, there have naturally been several cats who had reached the end of their happy and healthy lives, and I have always found the care at those sad times very good and considerate. I do always recommend the practice to others, as I have always been very satisfied. Thank you.

“Highly recommended. Our pets are always in very safe and knowledgable hands.”

We have been using Barton Lodge for over nine years, and previously my parents and in laws have also used Barton's. I cannot compare them to any other vet as I have not been anywhere else. Barton has been an integral part of our pets lives. We have all of our pets registered, which includes our cat, two rabbits and our new puppy. Apart from one of the rabbits, each of them has needed things "checked out" or treatment for minor things.

We also joined in for puppy parties when our lab was younger, which she loved.

Today we needed to visit to have her ears checked and also discuss her anxiety when being left alone. The staff were all knowledgeable, calming and great to deal with. We even received a call earlier after our visit to ensure we knew of the helpful pages online that could help with our puppy before our next visit.

We have the pet plan in place that helps with all the flea and worming treatments, and get sent reminders too which help.

I would not dream of searching for another vets as Barton lodge does exactly what we need and more.

I am always surprised at how clean and welcoming Barton is and most importantly our animals are in safe hands and feel calm too when they arrive. Actually our puppy seems to love the vets, I definitely think the puppy party helped with her.

Thank you all

X

“Always there when you need them!”

Barton Lodge have been our family vet since before I can remember! When I moved out of the family home and got my 2 boys (cats) Homer and Simpson, Barton Lodge were there from the start, supporting me on how to look after these tiny kittens! Nothing is too much trouble and no matter what time of day someone is there to help.
I have had some worrying times with my boys and without the expertise and support I was given by the vets and nurses I do not believe I would have 2 healthy 11 year old cats treading all over this keyboard as I try to type this review! The patience, persistence and understanding is second to none and very much appreciated.
I always recommend Barton Lodge vets as my experiences have always been positive. The empathy all the staff show to me and the care that is given to my boys is excellent and sets Barton Lodge apart from all other veterinary surgeries.
My sincere thanks to you all.

Taking my two cats for their annual vaccines today, I had one who loves to travel by car and would look out of the window given chance and another (cat no.2) who really hates it. During the journey, she poo'd herself and was sick all over her blanket.
As I had a cat carrier in each hand, I mentioned to reception that I had to leave the blanket in the car and without hesitation the nurse offered to clean it up for me (even asking if I wanted the blanket to take home).
Whilst waiting, I spoke to the reception staff about prevention plan cover and ended up saving over ã160 on my visit and spreading the monthly costs over the year.
I have receommended friends to Barton Lodge and hope they continue as customers like we have for the past 4 years.

“1st CLASS, PATIENT & UNDERSTANDING”

My wife & I have been associated with this surgery for a number of years spanning with my family 35yrs & my wifes family 40yrs, & now as husband & wife with our own dogs, since 1994, being our beautiful late Patchy (English springer spaniel,) our late beautiful Big Basil (English springer spaniel) for a short time as a puppy, who unfortunately had serious psychological issues that escalated, & enjoyed 4.5 yrs of life, but despite this, was a lovely boy, & we loved him none the less..& now our beautiful Basil bobsy who is now almost 2yrs 3mths who was born with additional large double dew claws on both back legs, & thanks to Barton lodge, carefully planned surgery at the same time as castration, Basil bobsy healed in a couple of weeks with no complications, the costs were very reasonable considering the complexity of the surgery involved due to the size of the deformity, although a worrying time for us, Basil just sailed through those 2 intial healing weeks, & it didn't appear to concern him at all, the post op wounds were minimal, neat, tidy & looked very durable, & best of all healed extremely quickly, so a big thank you, & for taking care of all our boys.. & supporting us throughout this period,
It has become my view that over the years, during our time at barton lodge we have moved out of the area, for a period of time, & then moved back locally..& in our view, in our experience, we feel that barton lodge is the best vets we have been associated with, as there experience, & specialities, & qualifications are of the highest academically, in veterenary surgery, & span over a number of decades..in fact generations..being a family run vets..so what more experience could any client wish for..
Additionally Barton Lodge have significantly progressed even further with additional facilities, that technology of today is now providing, demonstrating an ability of consistantly improving the quality of care for our dogs as far as we are concerned, & the welfare of animals as a result, in short the founders of Barton Lodge have committed their entire working lives hands on..on a daily basis to the care & welfare of animals.
This does not include the charity initiatives they are also regularly involved in..which should be noted..
Finally in our view Barton Lodge is the most actively committed, & progressively the best vets in hertfordshire..for value for care costs, & being patient, warm & friendly, & best of all can be trusted in the outstanding knowledge & expertise they pocess, to give the best care, any client could wish for..
Sorry for being a bit long winded.. so this only leaves me to say a big thank you to,
Mr & Mrs Wickendon & Judith, & staff, at Barton Lodge for looking after our boys!

“Reassuring staff”

However everyone from the receptionists to nurses to vets are always on hand to answer any question big or small. They never make us feel as though we are asking silly questions, and always give us plenty of time. We never feel rushed and always leave feeling more confident. Our dog is really happy going there as they are all so friendly.

I would like to make a special mention of the puppy parties that are run by the nurses which are so useful. Full of information for new dog owners, the nurses really put so much effort and attention into these sessions, we have found them invaluable. It was so nice to have our vet attending with her new puppy and for her to answer our questions too. It made us feel as though they all do really care. The whole practice always make you feel that they always have time for us. They all obviously love animals and their passion and commitment should be commended. “Excellent vet and have recommended! ”

I registered my dog here when we first had him, to start with it was just once a year visit for the yearly jabs! Then one day my dog had a fit which was extremely traumatic for me as I had never experienced this before and my dog was healthy! Naturally I was straight on the phone to Barton lodge and they reassured me it would be ok and we booked an appointment for a couple of hours later, they even called me back in half an hour to make sure everything was ok!
After tests and a few more fits my dog was diagnosed with epilepsy. He was really poorly one Sunday where he had continuous fits, luckily Barton lodge is only down the road from where I live we called and the emergency vets were on duty to look after my boy! He was there for a few days but we were aloud to go and visit him until he was better to come home.
Since then he has to go back every three months for regular check ups and touch wood he is healthy and you would never know he has epilepsy!
They are so helpful and a special thanks to Rodger who has always given us great advice with his condition.
I have since recommended Barton lodge to a friend who has just bought a puppy and they also only have good things to say about them!
Highly recommended!!!!!

“Every vet should be like this.”

The puppy parties offered as the veterinary centre are a fantastic idea and a great way of introducing a puppies to each other and an excellent resource for first time owners and experienced owners. It lays a very good foundation for future visits to the vets. My dog always runs in very excitedly and would really love to have a run around with other dogs like at the puppy parties!!
Recently my dog Poppy became very ill with a mysterious vomiting and diarrhoea bout. It was very alarming and upsetting for us as a family. She lost a lot of weight very quickly and was completely out of sorts. Even though she must have felt rotten she managed a "tail wag" and a lick for Rachel and Katie. This in its self is testament to what what a lovely practice it is when a poorly dog is still happy to be there.
The care she received was excellent and my worries and fears were listened to with understanding.
On returning to the vets after the weekend I was told by Rachel that she had worried about her all weekend and was so glad to see her improving and not hooked up to a drip as she feared may have happened.
Poppys' care continued and it was a very happy Katie who saw a very happy and lively Poppy on a check up and she remarked just how full of life she was. What a different dog to the one she saw when she first became ill.
I would recommend Barton Lodge to friends and family as an excellent veterinary service.

“Brilliant vets !”

Always friendly, helpful and professional.

Barton Lodge vets acted really quickly when one of our Bengal kittens became ill. Their quick and decisive action certainly meant our kitten was able to get the specialist attention she needed and we are sure this contributed greatly to a full recovery.

On another occasion our previous cat was extremely ill. She was a bit older and we were really happy with the level of care she received and the comfort that she spent her last few days in. Any pet owner knows that this is not a nice time but Barton Lodge made it as easy as possible for us to experience.

Thank you !!

“BARTON LODGE RECOMMENDATION”

My family are new pet owners, we have recently acquired an ex-Battersea two and a half year old rescue Staffie Cross called 'Phelps' after several years without having a family pet. As new clients, from the onset we were impressed with Reception's patient willingness to clearly explain routine procedures; we enjoyed meeting the vet and we found her to be both very knowledgeable about our dog's breed and with a great deal of understanding regarding his being a rescue dog and associated difficulties/issues which we could encounter. She was also entirely approachable (being new, we have only had cause to see a vet once for our dog's initial check up). We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Barton Lodge to any prospective client.

However, the people who work in this practice,be it vets, nurses or reception staff, make this practice special. They are all, without exception, friendly, caring, compassionate and very reassuring when one is worried about a sick, much loved pet;daily phone calls to keep one informed when pets are hospitalized are usual here.

Just over 18 months ago, I moved house and decided to register my cat at a local vets so that I wouldn't need to travel so far.

At the first consultation, I realised what a mistake I'd made as it wasn't nearly as good as Barton Lodge, so I came back. Lesson learned.....it's worth travelling the extra distance to visit a great veterinary practice!

My cat was recently diagnosed an overactive thyroid. I can't thank Katie, Rachel and Mrs Wickenden, the three vets that have seen Lottie, enough for all of their care and expertise in diagnosing and treating this life long condition.

I've already recommended Barton Lodge to a number of people and will definitely continue to do so!

My husband and I bought our first French Bulldog Puppy Harry 2 years ago and we had concerns as to what practice to use as at the breed often need a little extra care. We were recommend Barton Lodge by several people as THE best vets in Hemel Hempstead. So from then on we have never looked back. a few months into getting Harry he became ill with projectile vomiting after each meal it was very upsetting and worrying but with the help and support of Rachel, Cathy & Katie, Harry had a series of tests and was referred to the RVC for further care where he was treated for an extremely rare condition which required reconstructive stomach surgery and after care and support from both the RVC and Barton Lodge. The vets worked hard to help Harry in order for it to be resolved quickly and not effect his growth as at an age where good nutrition was key. The vets & have also assisted with other things such as allergies and diet advice. When we got Bella our second Frenchie we of course registered with Barton Lodge and as a big French Bulldog lover I recommend the vets as great with service and care and very knowledgable about the breed.

Thank you for all you do for us and our beautiful pups
