SEVERAL DAYS AGO MY WIFE MADE AN APPOINTMENT, 11:55 AM SUNDAY MORNING WITH YOUR OFFICE IN "PETS AT HOME" COLCHESTER CO1 1YN, AFTER RECEIVING A RECOMMENDATION FROM A FRIEND. WHEN WE ARRIVED WE WAITED TEN MINUTES IN A QUEUE AT THE FRONT DESK,AND AFTER A FURTHER WAIT OF FIFTY FIVE MINUTES TO BE SEEN BY THE VET,MY WIFE ENQUIRED IF WE WERE NEXT, ONLY TO BE INFORMED THERE WERE ANOTHER FIVE PEOPLE INFRONT OF US, AND THAT "THEY WERE ONE VET DOWN" WE CONFIRMED OUR APPOINTMENT AT 10:30AM, WHY WERE WE NOT TOLD OF THIS SITUATION. WE LEFT WITHOUT BEING SEEN BY A VET. THE SERVICE WAS ABYSMAL, AND NOT WORTHY OF YOUR REPUTATION.

Vet Response

Thank you for the feedback provided. I am sorry to read that you felt you had an unacceptably long waiting time on a Sunday that your pet needed to see our vet. Please would you allow me to explain why waiting times on a Sunday can be longer than usual on occasion: 1. We are one of only two vet surgeries in Colchester that provide a normal service on a Sunday. All other surgeries are closed and their clients are directed to use the out of hours service Vets Now at a higher cost. 2. The result of this is that we get a large number of calls from clients that require emergency appointments on a Sunday. 3. We reserve a significant section of consultation time for these cases, but due to the volume of clients that have to be seen, we cannot run it on a strict appointment bases, but rather on a 'arrive and wait to be seen bases', similar to when one visits A&E for an emergency appointment. 4. We aim to make all clients aware of this when they request to be seen on a Sunday. We do apologise if you were not made aware of this. Most clients understand that there will be a longer than usual wait and they appreciate that we are happy to see them on a Sunday. Clients also understand that we need to prioritise more life threatening emergencies. 5. The alternative to using our service on a Sunday would be to go to the out of hours provider Vets Now Colchester that is open all Sunday for emergency veterinary care only. Please feel free to contact us on 01206 771984 if you would like to discuss your concerns further.

I have two cats registered with Companion Care in Colchester and i just cannot speak highly enough of the service i have received across 4/5 visits. I have always been made to feel very welcome and my cats too! I took my eldest cat in this Monday as she had one of her back feet, the vet wanted to make sure she was checked out as he thought it could be broken. I was told that she would need an xray ASAP and the following morning was extremely busy but to bring her in anyway. After arriving in the morning, I was seen to very quickly and the vet nurse explained everything i needed/wanted to know. The receptionist was also extremely helpful when i needed to fill in my claims form. I just had to turn up at 5:30pm to collect my cat and again, they were very good at explaining what had happened. I seriously cannot recommend Companion Care in Colchester enough. If you want to use a vets that's friendly, accommodating and reasonably priced, go there!
