My 12-year-old collie cross had a mature glaucoma and heavily increased pressure in her eye. I didn't know enough about this condition to realise that removing the eye was going to be the best option, given that the eye was blind and gave my dog headaches. It was much more of an emotional mess than my dog was, but John gave me enough time and information to consider all options (including pressure-reducing drops, which we tried). There was no pressure put on me to go ahead with the operation, but I decided to go ahead when the eye developed internal bleeding. The operation to remove the eye went really well. My dog was taken for a little walk by the nurse after she woke up. The stitches healed without any complications, and there was no discharge. To have information and time while not feeling pressured into taking such an important decision made this as positive an experience as once could hope for in a situation like this. John obviously has vast experience in this field, and his kind manner towards both human and canine made it all ok.

Where can I possibly start. I first came to Medivet about 9 years ago. I had an Airedale Terrier called Albert. I have 3 Golden Doodles called Dolly, Betty and Mabel..... BUT this is not about me. John and Jeremy have to be the most unique kindest most passionate people I have EVER met. They are ONE of a kind. I cant talk more about one or the other. They have both looked after all my dogs superbly. An example - Dolly was diagnosed with kidney disease a few years ago and the care and explanation I received was indescribable. I instantly became calm and relaxed when John AND Jeremy went through everything with me. On another occasion Dolly had a thorn in her eye and had it not been for Johns expertise in Opthalmic veterinary care she would have lost her eye. Having 3 dogs I am there a lot. The entire team are wonderful - I might forget all the names but Lauren, Hayley, Charlotte - WOW !!!!!! and I miss Lilly.... I remember a few years ago I had to go to out of hours to Enfield and when I walked in and saw Jeremy consulting I was over the moon. Medivet got bad press a few years ago - A real shame - One cannot and should not judge an entire company because of a few terrible people - There are good and bad all over the world. I cant imagine I would ever find another J and J - I cant even bring myself to state one name before the other because they are both superb humans, outstanding vets and I only wish with all my heart that if there is an afterlife I will come back as Johns Leonberger. I LOVE YOU ALL AND AM HAPPY AND HONOURED TO KNOW YOU XXXX ON BEHALF OF THE DOODS AND ME - WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE - REGARDING COST - ITS PRICELESS !

There are many excellent Veterinary Practices in the greater London area. Our pets have been very fortunate to be treated and cared for at Medivet Hampstead Garden Suburb. Not only are the practice partners (Jeremy Carr and John Beel) two of the most experienced Vets in the country they lead by example and manage a superb team of support staff. Many of us complain about the high cost of VET fees however Medivet Hampstead Garden Suburb go above and beyond in explaining all of the options available and allow you to make the best decision where your beloved pet is concerned. My Bulldog 'Sharpie' has been to see John and his wonderful team a number of times. He has treated her for various doggy injuries along with a long term illness. I have never come accross a veterinary practice as friendly and helpful as the team at Hampstead Garden Suburb. John makes my dog so relaxed and he talks to her in a way that actually makes her enjoy the experience. You always worry when taking your pet to the vets for treatment but the team here are professional and actually talk to you like a friend than a client. I can not express how grateful I am for all of their help and continued care and love of Sharpie. I would recommend them to anyone! Keep up the good work guys and gals!

We all love going to see John and Jeremy - even our dog Poppy. They have always been very friendly and reassuring as well as ultimately expert and professional. They are excellent at explaining the issues and the options open to you - there may be more tests but I have never felt pressured to take them nor have I always done so. The dog is absolutely infatuated with John and never wants to leave - what more can you ask for!

14 weeks ago we had to make the horrendous decision to say goodbye to our precious 9 year old Cavalier King Charles called Ollie. As with a lot of Cavies he developed serious health issues including Diabetes and Pancreatitis as well as other problems. We cannot praise John, Jeremy and the team highly enough. They loved our boy so much and it showed. When the end came our darling Ollie and us were treated with care, dignity and the utmost sympathy. We are so very grateful to John, who was with him at the end. Any pet who is cared for by the Suburb team is indeed a lucky pet.

We have been clients of John and Jeremy since 2008, and they treat our 4 elderly sighthounds, ages 9-15. Originally we went to John as we had just adopted a blind ex-racing greyhound,who had been misdiagnosed by his previous vet.John immediately recognised his condition,performed the correct tests, gave us new eye drops, and within days our dog\'s eyes had improved dramatically and he was getting some sight back. This improvement has given Alfie a happier quality of life and has remained constant to this day. Jeremy has twice been on hand in an emergency - once when one of our dogs had been attacked and needed swift surgery, and then again recently when our hound had trouble breathing and needed an emergency tracheotomy, which saved his life. We have nothing but praise for the highly professional and caring skills we have received from John and Jeremy, who have always gone the extra mile whilst caring for our dogs.

I have been using Medivet HGS for the past 6 years. John is a very nice person and a true animal lover who has been always very gentle with both my dogs and a friend\'s dog. However I would NOT recommend this practice to anyone. In my experience, not only is it very overpriced, the tendency is push unnecessary procedures (such as blood tests, X-rays and ultra scans). The results are never conclusive enough to give you any definite diagnosis and even more tests are suggested. Blood profiles that are done on the premises by other vets are always send to the lab by Medivet. Estimates of in-house procedures are always exceeded. After months and thousands spend two of the dogs had to be referred to Royal Veterinary College to diagnose an allergy and sarcopic mange. Third dog had an X-ray and ultra scan done, this missed advanced terminal tumor (which the dog died from within 3 weeks) but we were advised to do MRI scans for further investigation. I would strongly advice to go elsewhere.
Vet ResponseI am sorry you feel so unhappy with the service you have received. Unfortunately, our standards of practice do come at a cost. Making an accurate diagnosis often requires a number of tests or procedures â€“ and many need to be sent to specialized laboratories. However, making an accurate diagnosis allows treatment to be more specific. This is important as it maximizes the likelihood of success. In human medicine it is also not uncommon to end up without a definitive diagnosis despite numerous tests. An allergy is a very good example of a condition where, despite many (often expensive) tests one may not conclusively identify a specific allergen. Regrettably, despite our best efforts we do sadly lose some patients too. However, we always aim to treat our patients as if they were our own pets whilst always being mindful of the costs involved. We want every client to be fully informed of the cost implications involved with every diagnostic or therapeutic decision. We also understand when owners need to limit levels of treatment as a result of cost. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any of the issues you have raised in this review.

We recently had our rabbit spayed with Medivet (Hampstead Garden Suburb branch). The service was wonderful, caring and personal. Our rabbit has made a fantastic recovery from her op and we are very pleased with how well Medivet looked after her. They kept us informed on all aspects of the treatment and care throughout. I would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for a professional, kind and considerate vet service for their pets.
